Women and girls impacted by incarceration deserve more than survival. They deserve to be rooted in health, healing, dignity, and confidence.
Rooted in Her was created to support the holistic wellbeing of girls and the women who care for them.
Why this work matters:
• Women and girls in economically marginalized communities often face barriers to healthcare access, mental health support, and opportunities for personal development.
• Families impacted by incarceration experience additional challenges including trauma, stigma, and economic instability.
• These barriers affect not only individual wellbeing but also how girls see themselves, how families heal, and how futures are imagined.
• The issue is not a lack of potential. It is a lack of equitable access to care, resources, and opportunity.
Rooted in Her will support programming that nurtures the full ecosystem of girlhood and womanhood through four interconnected focus areas:
Women’s Health Access:
Addressing gaps in women’s and girls’ health education and care, including reproductive health awareness, menstrual health, and access to basic health resources.
Self-Care for Mothers:
Supporting the wellbeing of our mothers, especially those under financial or emotional strain, by providing opportunities for rest, care resources, and wellness support.
Family Connection & Mental Wellness:
Strengthening family bonds and emotional wellbeing through:
Mother’s Day visits to prisons
Mental health support
Sisterhood programming that connects girls across both sites
Confidence & Milestone Support:
Ensuring girls can fully participate in important life milestones by helping cover costs and providing support for:
Prom
Graduation
Confidence-building experiences
Every gift helps remove barriers and create opportunities for women and girls to thrive
